Comments: Plaque lists the names of 27 servicemen KIA or DOW whose remains were returned home for burial in this cemetery.
The large bronze relief plaque is located at the east entrance column of Southern Memorial Park Cemetery. The plaque contains the individual names and dates of death of 18 World War II, 3 Korean War, and 6 Vietnam servicemen who were killed in action or died of wounds and whose remains were returned for burial to this cemetery. The list includes a 25 year old Major who was killed when the B-17 he was in crashed in France. Other casualties were aircrew killed in he Netherlands, an Army Staff Sergeant killed in North Africa, a Marine Corporal killed on Iwo Jima, a Private killed in Burma, and a Sergeant killed in Italy amongst others listed on the plaque. Engraved on the plaque, adjacent to the names, is a U.S. flag flying at half staff in honor of those servicemen eternally resting in the cemetery. The graves of these men are easily accessable for anyone wanting to visit the actual graves of these heroes who died in the service of the American people.
