LIKE ITS COMPANION MONUMENT ON HENRY HILL, THIS OBELISK WAS CONSTRUCTED BY UNION SOLDIERS AT THE CLOSE OF THE CIVIL WAR. IT WAS DEDICATED DURING AN ELABORATE CEREMONY HELD ON JUNE 10, 1865.
