IN THE 1970'S THIEVES STOLE THE BRONZE FIGURE AND BRONZE PLAQUES FROM THE ORIGINAL MEMORIAL FOR THE VALUE OF THE METAL. THEY KNEW THE VALUE OF THE METAL BUT NOT THE VALUE OF THEIR FREEDOM. THE MEMORIAL WAS REPLACED AND REDEDICATED SEPTEMBER 10, 2014.
