ON A B-17 MISSION OVER EUROPE LAWLEY'S SHIP WAS HIT BY ENEMY FIRE AND TWO CREWMEN SERIOUSLY WOUNDED WHO COULD NOT BAIL OUT. 1ST LT. LAWLEY TOOK CONTROL OF THE SHIP AND MADE A SUCCESSFUL CRASH LANDING ON A SMALL FIGHTER BASE.
