This cannon was donated to our post by the Department of Defense in 1949. It was developed by the US Army for use as a tank destroyer during WWII. These 3 inch M5 guns were the vanguard for the US Army’s elite tank destroying destroyer battalions from 1943–1945. This cannon stood proudly in front of our post home at 4416 S. Western Avenue for over 60 years. The cannon was refurbished and placed in its new home in 2011. It was rededicated for all our fallen comrades on May 27, 2012.
