Comments: The Memorial consists of a fountain and statue surrounded by engraved pavers. The top of the pool base is edged with black granite engraved with the names of the 678 men that enlisted in Blue Earth County. There is also a kiosk that contains interpretive information.
The “Boy in Blue” Blue Earth County Civil War Memorial fountain and statue was erected in Lincoln Park by the Grand Army of the Republic in 1892. The Boy in Blue only lasted for thirty-five years, becoming the victim of neglect, senseless vandalism and the ravages of extreme weather conditions. It would have remained this way, had it not been for renewed interest in the Civil War era, on the occasion of the conflict’s sesquicentennial commemoration; coupled with the efforts of a small, but determined group of local citizens, whose goal it was to reconstruct the Boy in Blue. The memorial is constructed of Mankato Kasota stone, cast iron and the statue of a fiberglass composite.
