JAMES W TOBIN MEDAL OF HONOR GRAVESTONE
Civil War Medal of Honor recipient. Also known as Jacobus W. Tobin, he served as a Sergeant, Company C, 9th Michigan Cavalry. At Aiken, South Carolina, February 11, 1865 his company was in retreat of a Confederate advance. At his own risk, he returned in the face of the enemy and rescued Major William C. Stevens, Cavalry Commander, who had been thrown from his horse.
