MORE THAN FOUR THOUSAND MEN WERE ENROLLED FROM PORTLAND IN THE ARMY AND NAVY FOR THE WAR OF REBELLION. MORE THAN THREE HUNDRED WERE KILLED IN BATTLE OR DIED IN SERVICE.
